What a fantastic announcement we received last Friday that we will be having all students back on May 25th. School has certainly been a different place with low numbers of students and a very different learning program. Well done to all of those dedicated parents out there who have been assisting children in their learning. Another big thank you to the staff at school who have been working tirelessly to ensure that the learning packs and online learning have been a success. We recognise that it hasn’t always been as smooth and stress free as we would have liked, but we were learning alongside our community as we created and delivered our content.
When school returns on May 25th it will still look different to the start of the year. At the time of writing this article we know that many aspects of “normal” school life will be different, such as the borrowing of library books or use of sporting equipment. Whilst the Public Health advice for children is that school is safe, the advice around adult movement and interaction is clear. We are not to have any unessential visits from adults on site. Please follow these guidelines-
- Pick up and drop off is outside of the school building, preferably outside the school boundary
- All adult entry is via the school office
- When entering the office area use the hand sanitizer, physically distance from others and check in with the office staff
- Playground equipment is out of bounds before and after school
We understand that these rules do present some challenges but ask that you adhere to them. Please have a spot prearranged to pick up your child and make sure you both are clear where it is. If you have a child with a disability we are able to make adjustments to help facilitate their transitions so please contact us next week to arrange.
I have made some YouTube clips announcing those students who have received a merit certificate. Click on the links in the merit certificate section to see me award those.
We all hope that you enjoy the last couple of weeks of learning from home and look forward to seeing you all back soon.
Yours in partnership,
Brett Hay
A reminder that this week’s Learning at Home Packs for your child can be found on the school website at https://sgeorgetps.schoolzineplus.com/learning-at-home-
We thank you for your ongoing effort and support in helping to deliver a quality education to your children during this difficult time.
RETURN OF LIBRARY BOOKS
Library books borrowed at the end of last term need to be returned to school next week.
We will open the school gym from 9.30 - 2.30 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for drop offs. Please do not bring the books into the school building, but rather, leave them on the trestle tables inside the gym door.

At South George Town Primary School we are excited to announce that we are planning improvements to the blue equipment in the early childhood area.
We would like to know what your Prep to Grade 2 child would like to see added to the playground.
What is their favourite part of the blue equipment?
Are there some parts of the equipment that they don’t like or rarely play on?
Have they seen something at another playground that they really love that we could add to ours?
We would love Prep to Grade 2 children to draw us a labelled diagram of what they would like the blue equipment to look like? Please send a photo of your child’s diagram to school by inboxing the school facebook page or texting it to 0417 328 293.
We will look at the suggestions over the next week and then move quickly to have new equipment installed as soon as possible.
We look forward to seeing some fun and practical diagrams!
In Term 2, Book Club will look a little different. Families will still be able to order, we will still be offering a 'pay by cash' option, but there will not be a hard copy catalogue. Orders close at 9am TOMORROW. This term catalogues will be delivered online at:
https://scholastic.com.au/book-club/virtual-catalogue-1/ Using the LOOP online option is the easiest way to order.
We will be in touch when orders arrive at school.
Do you know someone with a child born in 2016? Children born in that year are eligible for pre-Kindergarten! Mrs Spicer would love to hear from any potential enrolments and can be contacted by calling the school on 6382 1564 or texting 0418 479 961.
To help Australians respond to the COVID-19 pandemic, NBN Co is providing up to $50 million to assist phone and internet providers to support low-income family households with school-aged children who do not currently have an active NBN connection at home.
This funding will help phone and internet providers create more affordable offers to connect eligible families during Term 2. More than 20 phone and internet providers nationwide have agreed to participate in this program.
The assistance period runs from 1 April 2020 to 30 September 2020. Each phone and internet provider has their own pricing structure and may still charge a fee for monthly access, data costs and account set up fees.
Phone and internet providers that are ready to connect customers as of 1 May 2020 are:
