This week we welcomed back to school all of our students. It was such a joy to see so many happy, smiling faces on Monday. There was a buzzing excitement from students and teachers who were seeing each other, some for the first time in 8 weeks. I have been so proud of the way our community of students, teachers and parents have embraced these challenging times. The way our students and teachers have settled straight back into learning and improving themselves is amazing. I’d also like to thank our parents for observing the physical distancing measures in place at drop off and pick up.
There has been a noticeable decrease in temperature over the past few weeks and I would encourage all parents to ensure that their children have adequate clothing for the cold weather. Many students are arriving wearing only a t-shirt and shorts which is certainly not enough to keep warm. I would encourage all parents to dress their children in our school uniform (clearly labelled) as it has many warm options.
While the current restrictions are still in place we won’t be able to conduct any assemblies. I will continue to award merit certificates and Aussie of the Month awards via YouTube, so please keep an eye out for the links in the newsletter, Facebook and website.

National Simultaneous Storytime
Today celebrated the 20th year of National Simultaneous Storytime. To celebrate students from 1/2 Gilmartin joined online to watch ‘Whitney and Britney Chicken Divas’ being read by the author and illustrator Lucinda Gifford. They enjoyed a pre-read dance to some groovy music and they even got a free art lesson at the end by Lucinda on how to draw chooks.
Simultaneous Storytime went worldwide this year and aimed to have 1 million students read Chicken Divas at 11am from around the globe. Just imagine that, one million kids reading…all at the same time! What an achievement. We can’t wait to get involved again next year.
If you would like to watch Chicken Divas with your child then follow this link https://iview.abc.net.au/show/play-school-story-time/series/0/video/CK1908H022S00
This reading is done by well-known Australian comedian Denise Scott on playschool.
It is certainly a colourful book!
RETURN OF LIBRARY BOOKS
Library books borrowed at the end of last term need to be returned to school as soon as possible.
- Pick up and drop off is outside of the school building, preferably outside the school boundary
- All adult entry is via the school office
- When entering the office area use the hand sanitizer, physically distance from others and check in with the office staff
- Playground equipment is out of bounds before and after school
