Our teachers are currently working on writing reports for our students. The COVID situation and the extended at home learning period has made this a more challenging exercise than normal for this reporting period. The Department of Education has determined that students will not receive a full report for mid-year, or be assessed on the A-E scale. For this reporting period, our Prep to grade 6 students will receive a descriptor of if they are working towards, working at or working above standard, along with 2 focus areas for improvement in Maths and English. They will also receive a short written comment. These reports will be sent out in week 10 of this term. Kinder students will receive their Kindergarten Development Check through their class teacher.
Unfortunately we had someone come onto the school grounds over the weekend and drive their car over our school oval. This is frustrating as it destroys our school play areas and costs money to repair. One of the positives to come out of the COVID situation is the amazing support we have had from our community. When someone purposefully destroys our property, they not only affect our students, they affect our staff, parents and community. If you do live near the school, please keep an eye out and report to the police any unsociable activity.
As we return to the new “normal” the Department of education is seeking stories from parents about their learning from home experience. There is a link and explanation of the process in the newsletter. We received many great photos and stories over the learning from home period and I encourage anyone who wishes to share with the Tasmanian community to do so.
Yours in partnership,
Brett Hay
We would love to hear stories of how your child’s school or teacher has inspired you during this time of COVID-19. Over the past few months it has become more evident than ever before that schools are the heart of our communities and are greatly valued.
The strong partnerships of parents working with teachers and schools to support our students meant student engagement in learning remained high even though teaching and learning was different in so many ways.
As a Department we are looking to capture these amazing stories of courage and growth and showcase many of these through a Celebration of Collaboration later in the year.
We encourage you to acknowledge your school, Child and Family Centre or local library for going above and beyond.
Please share your story by visiting this website:
Our whole school photo day will be held on Thursday 23rd July. This date falls in the first week back for Term 3, so students will bring home their order envelopes today. It would be great to get as many returned by the end of this term (3rd July) to ensure smooth running on the day. If you require a family photo envelope you will need to collect one from the school office.
This fun and free event will go all term. Students are encouraged to read 10 books in 10 weeks.
