Our Swimming and Water Safety program is now well underway and it doesn’t take long to see real gains as the students practice their skills intensively every day. It has been fantastic to watch our students embrace the challenge of the program and test themselves. Whilst swimming is mostly a physical challenge, we can certainly apply this to our learning as well.
One of the main “themes” of this year is to “Lean into Learning”. I have been talking to the students at line up about embracing challenges in their learning and to do things that are hard. While it can be easy to sit in our comfort zone, by challenging ourselves by doing difficult things we force ourselves to grow, improve and learn. The greatest rewards generally always occur after working through adversity or challenge, and the dispositions like perseverance and problem solving become ingrained in our character.
We have a great school community here at South and I’d like to welcome all the new students and parents to our school. It has been fantastic to see all of the smiling faces of parents as they pick up happy children at the end of the day. I would like to encourage as many people as possible to think about joining our School Association. We have a meeting coming up in a couple of Monday’s time and it would be great to get some new faces along. Our School Association is very much in the mould of a Parents and Friends body. The meetings are very casual and the focus is on supporting the school and helping the teachers and kids be the best we can be.
Yours in partnership,
Brett Hay
