Where has the term gone? Already we are well into week 10 with one week to go before the term 2 holidays. We’ve certainly fitted a lot into that time, particularly in our work to increase our students reading ability by our school wide focus on developing vocabulary. Teachers on Thursday after school of this week will again be immersed in professional learning in the best practice teaching of vocabulary. They will also be analysing data on how successful we have been in our teaching of vocabulary this term. Our focus in this area will continue into term 3 with more details in coming newsletters and social media posts.
Congratulations to our students who ran in the All Schools Cross Country on Tuesday at Symmons Plains in surprisingly good weather. The course is very tough and it was the first time competing at this event for all of our competitors. Thank you to Port Dalrymple school for allowing us to share the bus and Miss Fish for helping to organise and accompany our competitors. It would be fantastic to see if we can grow the number of entries from South next year.
A reminder that we are conducting our parent teacher interviews next week. These are our formal interviews, however, I know that many parents often check in on their child’s learning continuously throughout the year. Likewise, as a school and teachers we are constantly engaging with our families to keep them updated on the learning taking place. We believe that learning is a partnership and encourage all members of our parent community to regularly check in with their child’s teacher and to engage with the information we send home via our teachers, newsletters and various social media platforms.
Our school beanies have been a great success and they look pretty cool being worn out in the school yard on these cold days. We have a very limited amount left, so if you want one please get in quick before they all go!
Yours in partnership,
Brett Hay

A small group of keen South George Town students travelled with the Port Dalrymple students on Tuesday 22nd June for the Primary All Schools Cross Country Carnival. The bus left a foggy George Town and arrived in plenty of time at sunny Symmons Plains where the event is held.
There are schools from all over the state at this event with all races having over 200 students in them. It is fantastic students took the big step of representing the school and participating in this carnival and we commend them for their efforts. The following students took part in this event and did their school proud.

Book Amnesty!! There are a number of Library books missing from 2020 class loans. These books may have been used as Home Readers and we are also missing Home Readers from the Literacy Program. We believe that most of these books were used during COVID and Learning from Home last year. A box has been placed outside the office for any books that you might find lurking on bookshelves
Parents are welcome to come and watch 5/6 winter sports on Fridays. Please come to the office first to sign in using the QR Code on the front door. Games start at around 10:30am.
