Our school is committed to giving all of our students a well rounded education with access to learning that stimulates and engages our learners. One of our topics of conversation at line up though has been that not every minute of school can be exciting. I was reflecting on the hard work that our Olympic athletes put in behind the scenes and sometimes when you want to achieve a goal the only way of doing that is hard work!
Our students certainly have been working hard in all curriculum areas and our evidences in student improvement in learning is to be celebrated. Our teachers have been collecting data over the year on the development of our students' vocabulary and we have observed great improvement across the board. As I’ve said in previous newsletter articles, our teaching staff are working extremely hard in developing our pedagogy in regards to vocabulary and we are seeing great results.
We have just updated some of our art displays around the school as well and they are truly amazing. It is worth the effort of coming into the corridors for a look and appreciating the work that has been done. Of particular interest are the interpretations of the Tasmanian aboriginal rock art and the stories they tell.
Congratulations to our students who have been selected for Country Gold Teams. Training is now on in earnest for the carnivals that will take place on the 16th and 17th of September. We also have two rounds of winter sport to come over the following term.
I would also like to thank everyone in our community for using the Check In TAS app, or signing in for those who don’t have a smart phone. I will remind people though that children are not to come to school if they have any cold or flu like symptoms. We have had too many students coming to school with coughs and runny noses and this is not fair to our students or staff in the current climate. We understand that caring for sick children can be an inconvenience, however, given the state of the nation in current lockdowns we must insist that you keep sick children home.

5/6 White Inspirational Speakers
A huge thank you to Caroline Brown, our first inspirational speaker for 2021. Caroline shared her story of overcoming adversity and hard times to how she became a business owner in our beautiful George Town community. We appreciate Caroline’s braveness in sharing her story and her resilience for what she has achieved in life.
In the coming weeks, 5/6 students will welcome two former students, Thomas Donnelly and Will Baxter, to share their stories.
On Tuesday South George Town Primary School held a Crazy Hair Day and everyone looked fabulous. We raised an amazing $188.65! All funds raised will go to buying decodable texts for reading. Thank you to our wonderful families for all your efforts to create very crazy hair and thank you to the School Association for coming up with the fundraising idea. If you would like to support our fundraising through the school association please let us know and we will put you in touch with the committee members.
Congratulations to the following Grade 5/6 students who were successful in making it into the 2021 TPSSA Country Gold Teams
