Welcome back to everyone for the start of the 2022 school year! We have had an amazing first few weeks back with both students and staff quickly settling into routines and learning programs. All classes have been extremely settled and focused and living our school values.
I would like to thank our community for embracing the COVID protocols and helping to ensure we are providing the best COVID safe environment possible. Until otherwise informed, I encourage all parents to continue to practice “stop and drop” for drop off and pick up and if you need to have extended conversations with a teacher please make a booking through the office. This helps us to limit the amount of adult interactions within the school setting. We will continue to update you through our social media channels to changes to the protocols as they happen. At this point in time we will not have any assemblies, but we will be having our athletics carnival in week 7 and Learn to Swim will proceed as normal. This year we will continue to present the merit certificates online and at our line up at school. Look out for these links in the newsletter and in our social media posts. We know we will have students, teachers and staff affected by COVID and isolation protocols along the way, (and have already) and we thank you for your understanding in this matter.
We continue to strive to improve in all aspects of our school, and this year our School Improvement Plan will be again focused on the continual improvement of our Literacy outcomes. We will continue our focus on the aspects of reading that have been our teaching and learning focus over the past few years. Again our focus on comprehension and vocabulary will be front of mind, as well as an increased attention to the teaching of writing. We look forward to sharing our learning with the community along the way.

We are now taking names for our Pre-Kinder program for 2022. If your child was born in 2018 and you live in the South George Town Primary School zone, they are eligible to attend. Please register your interest by contacting the school office on 63821564 or sending a text to 0418 479 961.
The Reading Room has Lucky Dip prizes for anyone returning Home Readers which may have been discovered at home over the holidays. We know that sometimes these books are misplaced at home, but please have a hunt and return any you find before Friday 4th March to claim a prize.
Classes are about to start their Home Reading Programs, and while we’re preparing for this to start, it’s obvious that many of our new books are missing.
Please return ASAP.
Swimming and Water Safety - 2022
On Monday 28th February, students from Grade 3 – 5 (and selected Grade 6 students) will commence their Swimming and Water Safety Program. The program will run through until Friday 11th March.
Details have been sent home with students in those classes.
9.20 - 10.20am | 3/4 Garwood |
10.20 - 11.20 am | 3/4 Clancy |
11.20 - 12.20 pm | All Grade 5s and selected Grade 6s |
Parents are welcome to attend the program, however, they will be asked to socially distance as required by public health. Students are encouraged to be independent dressers and therefore parents are requested to stay out of the change rooms. A current Working with Vulnerable People Check is required for all parents accompanying children on the walk to the pool. A copy of your current card should be given to the office staff.
Esk Band is an important program that runs within our school for grades 4-6. Learning an instrument builds many skills, not just musical, and we have witnessed amazing personal growth from band participants. Program flyers have gone home and I encourage any student who wants to learn an instrument (from the concert band selection) to enrol in the program. This year our music teacher Ms Long will be supervising and tutoring the program. There is a cost involved, however, no student at South George Town is denied access to the program. We support all students to participate no matter their financial situation. Please contact the school to discuss if you have any questions about your child’s participation.
