Welcome to South George Town Primary School

South George Town Primary School is a school of around 200 students, nestled into a bush setting in George Town. George Town is a small but vibrant community, with beautiful surroundings situated at the mouth of the Tamar River in Northern Tasmania.

Our school is a student focused environment, where we support children to be the best they can be. We are proud of our learning community and offer a rigorous academic learning curriculum, supported by opportunities for students to explore passions and interests beyond the traditional curriculum. We offer extensive Physical Education and sporting opportunities, specialist Art and Music programs, an orchestral band program with specialist tutors, learning support, leadership, Early Learning programs, social and emotional engagement programs, an exciting STEM program, and a Tasmanian Aboriginal cultural and language program for  Aboriginal students.

We also work closely with our Child and Family Centre to provide early  learning opportunities for our Birth to 4 students as well as partnering with our high school, Port Dalrymple to ensure a smooth transition from year 6 to 7.

South George Town Primary - Vision Statement

Our students within this culture of learning and improvement will be able to flourish as young people and will actively engage in life-long learning and pursue life opportunities to realise their dreams and aspirations.

Our Values

South George Town Primary School has four core values of Learning, Respect, Responsibility and Relationships and they underpin and support all that we do. Our values are evident throughout the school and are purposely taught as part of our Positive Behaviour Support program, as well as being deeply embedded within our culture of learning and improvement.
