Our external school review process has just been completed and I would like to thank the parents, staff and students for engaging so willingly in the process. Schools are very busy places and the external school review process allows us to reflect on who we are and what we do as a school. Last night at staff meeting the lead reviewer briefed our staff on the findings and recommendations for us as a school community to build on over the next 4 years in the review and improvement cycle. I am incredibly proud to say that our review outcomes were amazing, comparable, or better than the highest performing schools (both public and private) anywhere in the country. This outcome is testament to the dedication and expertise of our staff, the support and trust of our parents and community and our wonderful children who all see themselves as learners who love our school.
Part of this journey has been our relentless commitment to improving all students reading and writing. I have been so excited to see our “Draw talk, write” books coming back to school with amazing examples of student work that build the love of writing and reading. One young man was even ready for a new book already! We also have some exciting news in terms of new books coming into the library- watch this space for further details.
As we wind up a very busy term I would encourage all parents to book a parent teacher interview. Whilst I encourage all parents to have regular contact with their child’s teacher, and we are always available for a chat, this is a great time to discuss your child’s progress. Our focus is on continual improvement and this is a great time to discuss this with your chid and teacher.
Third term will be another busy time, especially for our older students as we begin the winter sport roster, grade 6 transition and the process for grade 5’s to become our grade 6 leaders. As always we will also be focusing on our reading comprehension through writing and oral language focus and making sure our student attendance is as high as it can be.
