Term 3 has been another wonderful term of learning at South George Town Primary. On presenting the merit certificates for this fortnight I was struck by the amount that were given for students who are working hard and improving. Our goal at South is that all students will improve academically and socially over their school journey, but the one thing that is in the student’s control is how much effort they put in. We are blessed to have a great staff who are able to engage and motivate our students and we aim to provide a range of experiences that allow students to find their passions.
We have had many opportunities for students to engage with experiences that have seen them flourish this past term. Many of our students competed in the Country Gold carnivals last week and represented our school, their families and community with distinction. My highlight was to see our grade 3-6 choir perform at Singfest. Thanks to Miss Long for providing our students with such an amazing experience and our choir sang so well. They will be performing for the Seniors concert in the first week back in term 4.
Other extremely exciting news was the announcement of the capital funding for our school upgrade. This will be an opportunity for our school to come forward and become the modern learning environment that our students, teachers and community deserve. The funding will allow us to upgrade our facilities to future proof us for increased enrolments and provide learning spaces that cater for the amazing curriculum on offer here at South. Over the next few months we will be in constant communication with you all as the initial part of the project is scoped and the community has their input.
Please take some time over the holiday’s to refresh, read a book and enjoy the longer daylight hours. Stay safe and we will see you all back for an exciting Term 4 in October.

Redevelopment of South George Town Primary School
You may have heard the exciting news that the 2024-25 Tasmanian State Budget includes $15.1 million to undertake a major redevelopment of our school.
The redevelopment will provide contemporary learning and support spaces and amenities for our students and staff, with the tender for the architectural consultants to be released later this year.
In Term 4, the Department will undertake consultation with our students, staff and the broader community, seeking feedback that will be used to inform the proposed master plan and scope of works.
The consultation will commence on Monday 11 November and conclude on Friday 6 December 2024.
It’s not everyday that we get such a significant amount of funding to undertake works at our school. I strongly encourage everyone to have their say through the upcoming consultation process as your feedback will help shape the future of South George Town Primary School.
More information on the consultation process will be provided in Term 4.
What an amazing day and evening for our primary choir. A big thank you to our music teacher Ms Long for organising our students. Thanks also to Sharee and Miss Cameron for supporting our students on the day/night. Our students represented our school beautifully as usual!
A tremendous effort was made by all who participated in the TPSSA Country Gold Carnival last week. We're very proud of you all. Although the weather wasn't the best, our students took it in their stride and played brilliantly. Thank you to our parents and teachers who sent through photos.
Here are some of our latest 'Reach for the Stars' recipients. These students have demonstrated our school values over several years. Congratulations on this very special award!
