And just like that we reach the end of another school year! Once again we have had another amazing year at South with much to celebrate, the highlight being our school based data and our External School review which were both exceptional. Our students go from strength to strength in their learning and we as a whole learning community continue to look at ways to improve.
I want to take the opportunity to thank all of our teaching and non-teaching staff and acknowledge their hard work and dedication. Schools are exciting places to work, but have their challenges, that our staff openly work through to achieve the best results possible for all concerned. The leadership team here at South are the best in the business and ensure that we are extremely well planned, forward thinking and create a culture of belonging.
Next year we embark on a new exciting part in our school’s history with our $15.1 million dollar redevelopment. The selection of architects and building management is well underway and the design process will begin once that team is selected. We look forward to continuing working with our community through this process to achieve an amazing result for our learners.
Finally, I want to thank all of our parents and carers for your support. We do see ourselves as a family here at South and like a family we have our ups and downs, but we always have the same goals and aspirations for our children to be learning, safe and happy.
Have a safe and happy break and we will see you all back refreshed ready for learning in 2025.

We very much appreciate the long term Breakfast Club support we have received from Woolworths George Town and Liberty Bell Bay.
With their support we have been able to provide breakfast to our students every morning. Woolworths supply our bread, jam, vegemite, honey and spreads and Liberty Bell Bay provide us with a variety of cereals, milk, milo and about 10Kgs of fruit every week!
We certainly couldn't do it without them!
We celebrated the end of 2024 with our annual Presentation Assembly last week. A big thank you to our current student leaders for hosting the event and to our 2025 leaders who assisted with welcoming special guests. Both Grade 5/6 classes, Esk Band, P-2 Choir & 3-6 Choir contributed to the assembly with a performance.

Redevelopment of South George Town Primary School
You may have heard the exciting news that the 2024-25 Tasmanian State Budget includes $15.1 million to undertake a major redevelopment of our school.
The redevelopment will provide contemporary learning and support spaces and amenities for our students and staff, with the tender for the architectural consultants to be released later this year.
During Term 4, the Department has undertaken consultation with our students, staff and the broader community, seeking feedback that will be used to inform the proposed master plan and scope of works.
It’s not everyday that we get such a significant amount of funding to undertake works at our school. I strongly encourage everyone to have their say through the upcoming consultation process as your feedback will help shape the future of South George Town Primary School.
More information on the consultation process will be provided at the beginning of 2025.
