Term 3 is often seen as the “least busy”, but it seems we still have a lot going on with 5/6 Sport, Esk Band cluster rehearsals, Country Gold Trials, training and competition, Young Scientists Excursion, Terrapin puppet theatre, Bravehearts, Fire Ed, Year 6 transition program and Book Week to name some of the things happening. We also enter the survey season and information around the Student Wellbeing survey has been sent home.
We continue to build and refine our knowledge on the DECYP reading priority. As stated many times before we have been working in this area for some time, however, we are now working with mandated aspects (such as DIBELS and Word Origins), and determining where they fit within our way of working. Miss Cameron has been working on a suite of different professional learning activities that we will be undertaking through this term that explore the new cutting-edge research around student learning and the teaching techniques that best leverage that learning. Much of the shift that we have undertaken over the past 7 years has been based on this research and it is affirming for us that the department is aligning with our way of working.
Our redevelopment group is meeting fortnightly to get some of our ideas into preliminary designs. The architects are using the work from the initial consultation and the education brief that the department has constructed to guide their thinking. We’ll keep you updated as things progress.

Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey
At South George Town Primary School, the wellbeing of our students is a top priority. We want to hear directly from our students about how they’re feeling and what’s happening in their lives.
Students in Year/s 4-6 will soon be participating in the Student Wellbeing and Engagement Survey. This important survey helps us build a clear picture of our students’ current wellbeing and identify ways we can better support them to thrive and engage in learning. The more students who take part, the more meaningful the insights will be.
This survey is part of the Department’s Child and Student Wellbeing Strategy.
Survey Details:
When: During term 3
Who: Year 4-6 students
What do I need to do: You and your child don’t need to do anything. The survey will be done in class time and will not require your child to prepare in any way.
A letter with more information has been sent home with all Year 4-6 students.
If you have any questions or would like further information, please contact the office.
Thank you for supporting our efforts to ensure every student feels safe, supported, and ready to learn.
Last week our continuing and Grade 6 Esk Band members went to Newstead college for a combined rehearsal. Coming together with other schools for such rehearsals helps us to work together with others, make new friends and connect with the greater music community. It is always an amazing experience playing in a larger band; we get to hear so much more than we do in our smaller school band, and working together towards the same goal brings great fun and a strong sense of belonging.
