One of my great joys is that I participate in supporting children learning to read and in taking the grades 3-6 for library lessons. One of my key messages to the children at the moment is to grab a book and read when it’s too wet, cold or windy to go outside. We’ve also been talking about our favourite TV shows, movies and video games because many of these are based on great books or vice versa. If you are watching a great movie as a family, think about getting that book to read as a family as well!
The COVID restrictions are still in place until the end of the term, but there will start to be more easing of restrictions in Term 3. We are still required to have strict protocols around parents entering the building, however there will be the ability to cater for volunteers, parents and outside agency people. As the restrictions are eased we will update you on the new procedures and protocols- hopefully we will be able to have things such as sport and assemblies with parents present soon. In the meantime I have again recorded YouTube clips for Merit Certificates and Reach for the Stars awards.
Yours in partnership,
Brett Hay

On Thursday 2nd July we will be holding a plain clothes day in support of 3/4 Garwood student Will Stephens and his Mum Prue. On Saturday they will shave their heads to raise money for Breast Cancer Network Australia. This is a cause close to their hearts, as Will's Nan, Jude, was recently diagnosed. This organisation does some amazing work with Tasmanian patients. Students will be asked to bring along a gold coin donation please which we will send to BCNA.
Erika has worked extra hard and read a whole library of books for the Premier’s Reading Challenge! A great effort Erika, well done.
Erika really enjoyed reading The Bad Guys series of books by Aaron Blabey (author of the Pig the Pug series).

Please return your reading logs next week in order to be in the running for your prize.

Our whole school photo day will be held on Thursday 23rd July (first week of Term 3). It would be great to get as many returned by the end of this term (3rd July) to ensure smooth running on the day. If you require a family photo envelope you will need to collect one from the school office.
