The athletics carnival on Monday was a great event and it was fantastic to see the level of participation, sportsmanship and enjoyment from our students. We were blessed with a beautiful day and all the events went off smoothly due to Miss Fish’s great organisation. We would not have been able to run such a successful event if not for the level of support we received from Port Dalrymple’s sports leaders, our SGTPS sports leaders and our brilliant parent volunteers. Letters outlining the Tamar Valley representative carnival next Friday at the St Leonards track in Launceston will be given to those students representing the school once the team is finalised. We still have 400m and 1500m events to finish this week.
Our bike education day for grades 3 to 6 was also a lot of fun, with students picking up some helpful hints on riding their bike in an urban setting. The program was very kindly sponsored by the George Town council and we appreciate their support. We certainly have seen a great upsurge in students riding their bikes to school because of it.
NAPLAN will be undertaken by all grade 3 and 5 students this year after it was abandoned due to COVID last year. Students will participate in a series of online tests that will provide information in the areas of writing, reading, numeracy and language conventions. This will be undertaken in the week starting May 10th . If you have any questions or do not wish your child to participate please contact the school.
Our Lego competition has grown again this year and is taking on a life of its own. Feel free to pop into the area around the corner from the front office and have a look. There has been a lot of effort put into the creations and many are quite spectacular.
Yours in partnership,
Brett Hay
On Tuesday students from grades 3 to 6 were involved in a Ride2School lessons that were sponsored by Healthy George Town and George Town Council. Students gained new information about bike safety and enjoyed this unique experience. Thanks so much to the instructor for his work at our school.
