Our first week of the Swimming and Water Safety program has been undertaken and although we did have the public holiday on Wednesday, the improvement in our students ability in the water is already evident. The SWS program is unique to Tasmania and as an island state surrounded by water, it is a very important educative tool for all of our young people. It is very important that students of all abilities, particularly those who are not confident in the water, engage in the program and reap its rewards.
We have some great competitions running at the moment. The Lego competition is always a favourite and I’ve overheard some very interesting conversations on some imaginative creations. Remember that its ok to use Lego from a kit, but it must be your own creation and not from an already conceived Lego plan. A new and extremely exciting competition/challenge is the 100 word story. We have some very creative and talented writers already in the school and I’m sure that this competition will excite and stimulate more students to pick up the pen (or tap the keyboard) and create the next great Australian (mini) story. We have already had some fantastic entries and students are exploring different ideas to write about. Perhaps the greatest challenge is how to capture the essence of the story in just 100 words- the use of vocabulary, punctuation and clever editing are paramount!
Today is the last day of Dayle Clark as our canteen manager as she takes on a new challenge in a different sphere of work. Dayle has made an outstanding contribution to our school in her time in that role and has led the transformation of our canteen to comply with the governments canteen policy and guidelines. She has also been an amazing teacher of our students when they volunteer in the canteen and a great team member and friend on staff. She always had a smile on her face, a positive attitude and nothing was ever too much trouble- her can do attitude will be greatly missed. Over the next few weeks we will be reviewing how our canteen operates and will keep the community updated on any changes.
Yours in partnership,
Brett Hay
