If you are the parent of a year 3 or 5 student you will soon receive your child’s NAPLAN results for this year. NAPLAN gives us as a school a snapshot into our academic state at the moment in time that it is undertaken. Overall, our results were pleasing, with gains made in student growth in our focus area in reading. We will use the overall school results to help set our priorities for next year, in combination with other data we will gather early next term. For parents it is important to remember that NAPLAN is a snapshot in time and the personal progress that a child makes against the curriculum as assessed by your child’s teacher is the most important academic marker over the year.
We have also begun a two week PBS focus on digital technologies including social media. There were some important messages that have gone out already in this regard via our Facebook page. I would like to reiterate that it is important that children only have limited time gaming and access to social media. We do see tired students who are gaming well into the night and fractured friendships due to misunderstandings on social media platforms. I would encourage all parents to be the gate keepers to these conversations and access to technologies- it is your job to make sure they are being used responsibly outside of school time. We will continue to work with our families to educate our children on being responsible users of digital technology at all times.

To our school community, thank you once again for supporting our Scholastic Book Fair.
Our total sales reached $3,122. The commission the school receives from holding the fair is 30% of sales in books ($433) and 25% in Scholastic rewards ($411) which can be used to purchase resources from Book Club and Scholastic Essentials.
A big thank you to Helen and Ros for their support during the fair, displays, sales, and assisting with setting up and packing up. To Sharon for her assistance on the door each day making sure the Covid regulations were followed. Sharee for helping with sales, Antonia for her help with admin and Janine for promoting the fair on Facebook.
Well done all, once again a great result!

- I was in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) for 20 years as an aircraft engineer working on C-130 Hercules transport aircraft and the Boeing 707 Air to Air refuelling aircraft which also doubled as the governments VIP aircraft. On Monday Kinder students enjoyed a walk through Wombat Walk. They saw some animals and spent time exploring the frog pond. We are very lucky to have this space on our doorstep.
The 5/6 classes would like to thank this week’s guest speaker, Will Baxter. Will attended SGTPS and fondly remembers friendships, lunchtimes, recesses, PE and hands-on activities. During primary school and early high school, Will felt despondent about learning with spelling and writing being especially challenging. When he received a diagnosis of dyslexia, he understood why he had struggled with certain subjects.
Will is now working his dream job managing the family farm as a fifth generation farmer, where he is embracing new technology . His journey to date has included working on remote, huge properties in South Australia and the Northern Territory, as well as properties in Tasmania. Will eventually continued with his education, going to University and despite his dyslexia achieved the dux for his course. Will has worked in Canada and travelled the world widely.
Will had some simple messages: have a positive work ethic, learn from mistakes, be truthful and most of all be kind.
