Once again I’d like to commend our whole school community for ensuring we have had such a fantastic start to the school year. It is only through everyone’s efforts, students, teachers, school staff and parents, that we are able to focus on our core business of learning and improvement.
Our teachers continue to create a calm and settled environment and our students are rising to the challenges within their learning. We as a school are focusing on improving all aspects of our student development but more specifically our students literacy through their writing. As I did last year, I will continue to update the community on our teacher learning and student focus as we learn together. Our swimming program for years 3-5 continues and as always our students are focused on becoming better swimmers and more aware of water safety. I would encourage all members of our community to also take up the Learn to Swim opportunities provided by the council when they are offered later in the year.
I would also like to remind parents that many social media platforms have age restrictions. These are applied to keep students safe, as much of the content on some sites is not appropriate for younger children. If you do allow your child to access social media, please ensure that you monitor it constantly and have continuing conversations around what is appropriate- all interactions should be fun, safe and kind!
We have some exciting events coming up soon including our first guest speaker for our grade 5/6s and our Athletics carnival. Unfortunately, at this point in time, the Education Department is not allowing spectators at our carnival. We will update you if this changes between now and the carnival day on Monday the 21st of March. Our grade 5/6 classes will be participating in some gender specific activities as well on certain days each term. This is a result of feedback that we received through our Health and Wellbeing Survey and the perceived need for the girls was significantly different to that of the boys. Our aim is to always be agile in the way that we support our students to be the best that they can be.

My role at SGTPS
I am a year 3/4 teacher at SGPS and I am loving it.
These are a few of my favourite things
- I like to laugh
- I love music
- I love to keep fit
- I love the beach especially with Rosie and Charlie
Dislikes
- I don’t like mean people
- I don’t like litter in our environment
- I don’t like Brussel Sprouts
Pets
As well as Rosie and Charlie I also have two chickens called Little Red and Crazy Chook and three ducks called Old Duck, Young Duck and Wobbles the Duck ? Check out the article below to also learn more about Rosie and Charlie!
A few fun facts
- I have lived in Scotland and China
- I was an extra in 3 Chinese movies
- I am the youngest of four children
You may have noticed we have 2 new students at South who are not very good at wearing their uniforms! We would like to welcome Charlie and Rosie and their Dad, Mr Clancy, to our school community. They will be joining their Dad’s class to listen to students read and generally offer a friendly, furry ear to anyone who would like to share their worries. Charlie and Rosie have worked in schools for quite a number of years and are very well-trained, they also have all the necessary permissions to be on school property. They will be attending school on a regular basis from next week.
Here are our Aussie of the Month recipients for February.
These students consistently demonstrate our school values of Learning, Respect, Responsibility and Relationships as well as the Aussie values of a fair go, respect and mateship. Congratulations!
