We head into next week celebrating success at our school, in particular, our grade 6’s and those achieving academic success. Our end of year celebration assembly is always a highlight of the year that allows our school community to come together to acknowledge those students who are leaving at years end, some after being with us for 8 years (or more if you count pre-Kinder).
We have been fortunate enough to be able to finalise our class structure and staffing (subject to late changes) and are able to announce that in 2023 we will have two Kinders, one Prep, three grade 1/2 classes, two 3/4 classes and two 5/6 classes. We will also have a minimum of staff changes, with Ms Greene winning a permanent position at Lilydale District School leaving us, and Ms Hayley Scilini joining us on a grade 1/2 class. Mrs Walsh is having an extended Long Service Leave break and Mrs Daire will be filling her role. Ms Sam Grace is returning to be one of our Kinder teachers and all other teachers will remain in the same positions as they were this year.
Reports and class placements will go home also next week. In reading the reports this year I am very proud of our students' achievement and the effort and attitude they have displayed overall. As I have mentioned before in previous newsletters, the growth in our students has been outstanding and we continue to strive to be the best school we can, especially in relation to our school vision of creating a place where our students can succeed as creative, ethical and purposeful members of our community and society.

It has been great to see the results from this year’s Health and Wellbeing Survey, which shows an overwhelming improvement in our data for girls regarding ‘worries’. It seems that many of the girls have engaged in some of the strategies that have been presented in our specific girls’ days to date
Our first session began with three local young women appearing as our inspirational speakers. They shared their experiences, strategies for dealing with worries and their career choices. Kaytlin Bodis arrived in her ‘scrubs’ after coming off a night shift of nursing. An important message Kaytlin shared was to surround yourself with positive friends that lift you up and support you. Gabbie Barnard shared the positive opportunities George Town has offered her and that it’s okay to change your hobbies and your career, as you grow as a person. Olivia Woodiwiss shared her personal journey of sadness and how she was able to move forward. Olivia promoted happiness and shared her overseas adventures helping others less fortunate, in countries with different cultures to Australia.
In the middle block, the girls made and designed their own vision boards. We hope that these can be used by students to set their personal goals and dreams, and to share moments of inspiration. Creativity, positive messages and affirmations were shown in the many designs. Many of these vision boards will be finished at home.
In the afternoon, student opted into nature, active or craft.
Girls opting into nature visited Mrs White’s place and were able to look at different animal habitats. Emersing yourself in a natural environment is a great way to relax and reset your ‘batteries.’ A highlight for the group was feeding the fairy wrens and a scrub wren (called Bill). With lots of patience, Eliza hand fed the wrens 11 times!
A group of 12 girls opted for an active session. They joined Miss Cameron on a bike ride along the Kanamaluka trail which takes you along the George Town waterfront precinct all the way to the Low Head Lighthouse. Exercise is a great way to reset your body and clear your mind. The wind certainly made sure our minds were clear! We had the South Girls Shout playlist motivating us along and it certainly gave us the extra boost we needed as we turned into a strong headwind on our way out to Low Head. We made it as far as Ainslie before turning around and heading back to school.
Those who selected craft, had the opportunity to hone into their creative side as they crafted salt dough with Mrs Daire. Craft is a great therapeutic tool, that also provides a sense of accomplishment. The girls sculpted gifts for loved ones, keepsakes, ornaments for a Christmas tree, and whatever their imagination led them to. We were able to chat with friends and relax in a calm and friendly environment, while we worked with our hands.
Overall, the day scored an average of 9.5 out of 10.
Here are some quotes from the girls:
“It was amazing to have a group of girls all laughing and enjoying ourselves while we got fresh air”
“The guest speakers gave me an idea of what I want to do for my career.”
“It was an amazing day that I am thankful for.”
“Guest speakers were inspiring”
“Craft brought out my creativity and calmed me down.”
“Teamwork has helped my confidence and to participate more.”
“The day made me feel calm, relaxed, and made me feel like me.”
“I found the girls days fun, helpful and calming.”
“Feeding the birds and having quiet time helped take things off my mind.”
“I love listening to people’s life stories”
“I like how you take the time and set it up for us.”
