Welcome to 2024 everyone. We are all very excited to be back at school and the students are all very settled and focused on their learning. I made comments to a few people recently that we have had an amazing start and as I enter my 30th year of teaching, this is the first year I have worked at a school that hasn’t turned over a single teacher. Our school is one that has benefited from a stable workforce and it is certainly evident as you walk around the school and see the focused learning occurring.
As we move back into school mode I would like to remind parents that students who are riding their bike or scooter to school must be wearing a helmet, stop at and use the crossings and push their bike or scooter through the school. Younger students who ride or walk to school should also be accompanied by an adult, particularly when crossing the roads.
Term 1 is a very busy term with our swimming and water safety program begins next week. We also have the Launceston Cup Day holiday next week and the March long weekend holiday on the 11th and this year Easter also falls within the term. The athletics carnival is on March the 12th and NAPLAN testing starts on March the 13th! Information around NAPLAN will be sent home this week with year 3 and 5 students. If you have any questions around the NAPLAN testing or would like to withdraw your child from the testing, please contact Miss Cameron or myself.
Over the year we will continue to be communicating with you regarding Safe guarding. Mrs Spicer is our Safe Guarding Lead teacher and will be using our social media and newsletter frequently with updates. We have been moving towards less frequent newsletters and more interaction with our community via our social media platforms. We have found that our families generally engage better via this form of communication. We will also be communicating how your child has settled into their learning in week 6 via the Primary Progress Report. Again we will have more updates via our social media as that nears.

Safeguarding Training Information for Parents
We are organising our Pre-Kindergarten program for 2024. If your child was born in 2020 and lives in the South George Town Primary School zone we would love to make contact as soon as possible. Mrs Matthews is busy booking play dates for this term so that she can meet families. This will be an opportunity for you and your child to meet staff and see the Kindergarten space.
If you haven't heard from Mrs Matthews please call into the office or phone 63821564 to leave your details.
Pre Kindergarten sessions will begin in term 2 and will run every Wednesday morning for 90 minutes. We are looking forward to welcoming new families to our wonderful school!
We know the absolute importance education has on young children and the opportunities that come with it. Education helps develop critical skills like decision-making, mental agility, problem-solving, and logical thinking.
