What a month of amazing weather we’ve had. It certainly has made our extra few holidays we’ve had very enjoyable, and fingers crossed that we can get our athletics carnival completed on Monday.
It was unfortunate that we had to postpone the carnival, however sickness of staff is unavoidable, and we couldn’t go forward without Miss Fish, she’s indispensable. The upside of moving the day was that we avoided the very hot weather, the downside is that we’ve lost some of our helpers for the day. If you are able to help, please contact the school and we can help you with the safe guarding video that you need to watch beforehand.
Part of the safe guarding requirement to be a volunteer at school is that you have to have a current working with vulnerable people registration and a certificate from watching the video. We have put out links on our social media and we would love all of our volunteers, those who have volunteered previously or would like to be part of our wonderful school to please watch the video and drop your certificate in at school. If you need any assistance to do so please contact the school. If you need any information regarding safe guarding in schools please contact Mrs Janine Spicer who is our safe guarding lead.
We are currently undertaking our NAPLAN testing and our students have been very committed to doing their best. Unlike many schools, we do not specifically prepare for the NAPLAN testing apart from familiarising our students with the online platform. We believe that the teaching and learning program at our school provides the basis of the skills for our students to succeed and our improvement across NAPLAN and other state and school based assessments confirms this.
Our School Improvement Plan once again will focus on the basics of reading and writing and improving attendance. Incrementally our staff are improving our teaching and learning programs and pedagogy (how we teach), which has been clearly evidenced by the student growth and achievement over the past few years. As I have stated previously, we are so lucky to have a community of adult learners who are always looking to improve and that sets a fantastic example to our students and ensures that we are all learning and improving together.

Today we held a whole school free dress day to raise funds to ship much needed school supplies to a remote village school in Solomon Islands. Altogether we have raised an amazing $348! Thank you to everyone that has donated!
We are organising our Pre-Kindergarten program for 2024. If your child was born in 2020 and lives in the South George Town Primary School zone we would love to make contact as soon as possible. Mrs Matthews is busy booking play dates for this term so that she can meet families. This will be an opportunity for you and your child to meet staff and see the Kindergarten space. If you haven't heard from Mrs Matthews please call into the office or phone 63821564 to leave your details. Pre Kindergarten sessions will begin in term 2 and will run every Wednesday morning for 90 minutes. We are looking forward to welcoming new families to our wonderful school!
