From the Principal

As we progress through term 1 we continually focus on our teaching and learning within our classrooms. Our programming is often challenging at this time of the year with many interruptions like learn to swim, athletic carnivals, NAPLAN testing and emotional literacy programs. I am often amazed by the engagement and dedication of our learners through this and the flexibility and adaptability of our teaching staff in working to ensure our students receive the best education possible.

Esk Band kicked off on Wednesday with a”bang” (and a hoot, toot and whistle). Incredibly we have 41 students who have begun the program this year and are enthusiastically getting to know their instrument. I would encourage everyone to make sure to look after the instruments at school, home and when they are being transported, as many of the instruments are worth thousands of dollars. Some are in excess of $10,000 to replace if damaged. One of our core beliefs at South is that everyone has the right to experience all facets of education and providing an amazing music and band program is part of that.

We hosted four architectural companies for a walk around our school this week as well. These companies have been shortlisted to tender for the position of designing and managing our redevelopment. As has been mentioned previously, we will be forming a redevelopment working group as soon as that contract has been awarded.

Keep an eye out for lots more exciting events and initiatives that are happening at the school in the learning and sporting space- it’s certainly a very busy time of year!
