Term 1 has flown by! It certainly has been an action packed term with much to celebrate.

Our staff  have been working diligently on ensuring our students are setting goals and developing the dispositions that will drive their learning for the rest of the year. Much of term one is ensuring that the “basics” are being delivered to our students, that routines are well developed and that learning habits are established. Explicit teaching of numeracy and literacy skills are being honed in a way that builds on last years learning, ensuring that our students are progressing and that we aim to achieve a year's growth for a year's schooling. Our new home reading program has been a huge success and we continue to build upon that. The enthusiasm that our students and families have embraced the rich texts that students have been taking home is truly inspiring. I would encourage all parents to please set aside some time to read with your child during the week -these memories stay with your child and last a lifetime, whilst also supporting them in their reading development.

We also need to take pause and thank our students for their commitment to their own learning and to our school. I have enjoyed watching our students work so hard in class, as well as at carnivals and in extra curricular activities like Esk Band. Their commitment to their learning and  our school ensures we continue to build a wonderful learning and achievement culture here at South.

Excitingly we are very close to appointing the architect that will be charged with working with our community in developing our school master plan for our redevelopment. The final stages of this process are with the government and the announcement should be very soon. This is another exciting step in our journey of creating a world class learning environment her at South.

As I said at the assembly yesterday, Term 1 is busy and has a lot of interruptions, where as Term 2 is where the academic learning really kicks in. I look forward to sharing the learning journey of our school with our community throughout next term. Have a wonderful break and we will see you next term.
