With Winter upon us it is a timely reminder for us all to ensure we are coming to school with enough warm clothes! Whilst the crisp mornings may turn into warm days, many students are coming without a warm jumper in the morning and are very cold when outside, particularly if a breeze gets up during the day. Please also remember to label all of your children’s clothes as well as we have a steady growing pile of jumpers and jackets in the lost property.

Our morning reading program is underway with our year 5 and 6 students buddied up with our children from the younger grades. It has been lovely to see the engagement from our younger students, as well as the fantastic leadership displayed by our older students. Our student leaders are also doing some amazing work with our younger students in the playground at recess and lunch. It certainly reinforces our school values and our children’s sense of belonging.

We have begun working with our architects and the department personnel in preliminary conversations around our philosophical and practical ambitions for our build. This groundwork sets the platform for ideas to be generated in regard to our redevelopment. We also have engineers and landscape architects visiting as well to look at the “hidden” infrastructure, (pipes, wires and the like), as well as the physical layout of the surrounding environment that needs to be considered. This is certainly an exciting time and we have our creative, yet practical hats on thinking and dreaming of possibilities. Our working group will be engaging with the whole school community during this process so it will hopefully capture the hearts and minds of everyone involved.

We have a large contingent of runners heading off to the All-School Cross Country next week and wish them well. Our school competed exceptionally well at the recent TPSSA carnival with all runners trying their best, with many finishing in the top ten and some placing in the top 3. Our Winter Sport Roster also kicks off in week 8 of this term on Friday the 20th of June. We also have a South netball team representing us on that day in the primary school netball tournament in Launceston.

Our teachers are busy preparing for moderation with other teachers from Port Dalrymple and Lilydale school on Friday. This is a great opportunity to get together with colleagues from other schools to discuss the work that students are doing in class, as well as have the opportunity to share teaching practice, resources and ideas. Soon after that we will begin preparing for the reporting period, and I encourage everyone to make sure that they book an appointment with your child’s teacher. Details for booking appointments will be sent out next week.
