From the Principal

I would like to thank all of the children and families who participated in the ANZAC day march and ceremony last Sunday. We had an outstanding response from our school and it was noted by many community members of the great numbers we had in attendance and our respectful listening during the ceremony. I have also had some wonderful feedback from the community and many of my teaching colleagues from other schools, about the amazing work that was undertaken by our students around ANZAC day. Our social media pages are shared far and wide and seem to be our best way of communicating with our school community and wider audience.

As our digital footprint expands via Facebook, Instagram and  YouTube we have decided to go to a fortnightly newsletter that aligns to when we award our merit certificates. All of our key days and upcoming events will be on our Facebook page as usual, and we will continue to share all of the great learning that is being undertaken. Our data shows that our parent and community are very engaged with our social media outlets and that this is the most effective way of connecting with our community.

Our students continue to focus at being outstanding learners and our settled start to Term 2 has been highlighted by the work being undertaken in classes across the school. Our teachers are focusing on developing our students' vocabulary to improve our reading outcomes. Teachers meet weekly in our professional learning teams planning on how to improve student vocabulary through our teaching programs. We have also entered the Premier’s Reading Challenge and I would encourage everyone to get reading. All classes have regular library lessons and should be borrowing weekly. That is certainly the expectation for all year 3-6 students who I have for library! I would encourage all parents to talk about the books that your child is reading at school, and also to encourage them to bring a book home to read each night before going to sleep. Not only will this improve your child’s reading, it builds a great routine that enables children to have better sleep.

Yours in partnership,

Brett Hay
