4/5 Greene ANZAC Day Learning
During the first week back at school for term 2, 4/5 Greene explored the meaning behind Anzac Day and its significance in Australian history and our lives today. We had class discussions about why Anzac Day is important and what we think it means.
We learnt Anzac Day started on the 25th April 1915, as it was the day Australian and New Zealand Army Corps soldiers landed on Gallipoli during World War I. We commemorate this day, not only for the landing of the ANZACs, but to pay tribute to those who have fought, fallen and continue to fight for our country and freedom. We completed various activities throughout the week, such as doing an Anzac Day fact find outside, creating beautiful solider silhouettes, writing journal entries from the perspective of the soldiers at war, researched the physical training the soldiers had to undertake and then created our own for the class to do. We researched different types of medals and why they were given to soldiers and we put our cooking skills to practice and made some Anzac biscuits with Mel.
We understand the importance of Anzac Day and the different ways we can commemorate those brave individuals who have, and continue, to fight and protect our country.
