Term 1 has certainly been a whirlwind this year! Having Easter in the term was another break in the flow with many other holidays and events that occurred. Fitting in learn to swim, NAPLAN testing, athletic carnivals, whilst also dealing with school wide illnesses has made this term particularly challenging. Hopefully, we will get a much clearer run in Term 2 and we can build on the fantastic learning that has occurred so far this year.
Our school athletics team represented the school brilliantly at the TPSSA carnival. On a beautiful sunny day, our students all competed to the best of their ability, and we were successful in many events. We have 9 students who have been selected to represent the association at the State Athletics carnival in term 2 and those students will be notified shortly.
In terms of teaching and learning, we continue to be steadfast in delivering a dynamic and engaging curriculum, whilst adhering to delivering the basics via an explicit and systematic teaching methodology. You may have seen recently that there was a Learning Matters conference in Hobart that was specifically looking at the Science of Learning and Science of Reading. South George Town Primary sent 6 of our staff to this conference, and we were very much affirmed of our teaching practice by the international experts who presented. It was a fantastic opportunity for those involved to connect and learn from those experts and we all came back highly motivated to continue our journey of embedding best practice, evidence based, teaching and learning across our school.
ANZAC day falls in the holidays this year, but we will still be marching and attending the 11.00am ceremony. We will meet the students who want to march at the front of the Memorial Hall at 10.20am ready for the march. Please ensure that students are wearing school uniform.
Lastly, I wish everyone a safe and enjoyable holiday. Have some fun, play outside and read a book!
