Can you believe it is the end of Term 3 already! What a fantastic 10 weeks we’ve had filled with all manner of learning experiences.
Following on from our involvement with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra we proudly opened our “Sense of Place” garden for our Aboriginal students, both kindly supported by Bell Bay Aluminium. Our community partners are significant supporters and contributors to our school and allow us to engage in providing all of our students amazing experiences and opportunities for learning they otherwise might not be afforded. We were delighted to have many of our community come and celebrate the garden opening with us and thank Susan Mansell for her vision in bringing the project to life.
We’ve recently also had students competing at sporting events as well. The Country Gold carnivals were run last Friday and our students all participated with great enthusiasm and sportsmanship. So too our athletics team participated in the TPSSA athletics carnival and represented our school with great pride and success. We are always very proud of our teams when they represent us as they always uphold our school values.
Once again I would like to highlight the combined effort of our students and teachers in striving to improve our writing across the school. It has been amazing to see the personal growth within our teachers translate to improved achievement in our students, and the support from home with our home writing has also contributed significantly.
A reminder that when school resumes for term 4 we will be back into school hat wearing. Make sure that you have your hat organised for the first day back. Have a fantastic and safe break and we can’t wait to see you all back for another great term.

Chilli 90.1FM Apple For Teacher
We would like to say a massive congratulations to Mrs. Daire for winning Chilli FM's Apple for Teacher! Mrs. Daire is completely deserving of this recognition. She joined our school this year after doing her uni placement under the guidance of Mr. Timms last year.
Mrs. Daire recieved a MacBook Air and the students in her class have won a Google Nest Mini and headphones, thanks to Harvey Norman Launceston. Chilli FM visited our school for a lunchtime party where they handed out these amazing prizes and played a few fun games.
Another Step forward in STEaM at South George Town Primary School
With the prize money awarded to South George Town Primary School by past and present students winning the 2021 Greater Launceston Area Internet Of Things competition, the school has added to its STEaM resources with the purchase of a 3-in-1 3D printer. Already up and running after only being in the school for a few days, the new printer will not only compliment our existing 3D printing and design program, but also offer students an insight into the CNC machining and Laser Etching worlds.
This 3-in-1 machine allows us to work with many different types of plastic filament and offers high precision printing to produce fine and smooth models. The printer also has the ability to engrave with high precision on surfaces such as wood, PCB, paper and plastics using a CNC cutter. The laser head can etch many different kinds of materials including wood, paper, plastic, leather etc.
There are plans to use this new technology in a more artistic fashion, allowing the production of an infinite variety of student created etching designs which can then be ‘printed’ onto fabric or other surfaces. This new printer will certainly provide wonderful opportunities for students creative abilities to reach new heights.
A very big thank you to grade 5/6 teacher Darrin Timms for his work in this important area.
Students in Grades 2-6 went to the Memorial Hall to watch the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra a couple of weeks ago. It was an amazing experience for all. Thank you to Bell Bay Aluminum, for providing this amazing music and educational experience which aims to engage students and inspire continued participation in instrumental music programs as they progress through school. Thank you to Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and also to Rob Burnett for taking these beautiful photos.
Last week selected students from grades 3-6 competed at the TPSSA Athletics Carnival at St Leonards. Students participated in a variety of events including running, shot put, vortex, long jump and relays. School staff were very impressed with the behaviour and sportsmanship displayed by our students. They demonstrated our school expectations of respect, relationships and responsibility, maintaining our reputation as a great school. Congratulations!
A tremendous effort was made by all who participated in the TPSSA Country Gold Carnival Friday last week. We're very proud of you all. Although the carnival was a one day event this year, our students took it in their stride and played brilliantly. Thank you to our parents and teachers who sent through photos.
Last Wednesday we opened our new Aboriginal Garden and artwork, 'Sense of Place'. Thank you to Bell Bay Aluminium for supporting this project with both funds and labour. It was wonderful to have so many guests attend. A big thank you to Susan Mansell, our Aboriginal Education Worker, and our amazing Aboriginal students for your work in creating this very special place for our school and community. Thank you to Rob Burnett for capturing this special moment.

It was great to see so many students dress up and show off their teams colours with pride. Head on over to our Facebook page for more photos. We raised an amazing $190.45 for school resources.
